What a knee injection costs in Malaysia
Prices vary more than they should, and the headline number is rarely the number you pay. These are the ranges quoted by private clinics in 2026, and the questions that explain the gaps between them.

Ranges reflect private clinic and specialist centre pricing across the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor in 2026, including consultation. Public hospital charges are substantially lower. Cost per month of relief uses the midpoint of the price range against the typical duration for that category, and is a rough guide for comparison rather than a quotation.
The three things that move the price
Which product, not which clinic
Within hyaluronic acid, the spread between a low molecular weight product and a cross-linked high molecular weight one is several hundred ringgit per syringe. That difference is real: it buys months of additional duration, and it decides whether you come back once or five times.
One injection or a course
This is where most of the confusion in quoted prices comes from. RM 300 sounds cheaper than RM 1,200 until you learn the first is one of five weekly injections. Always ask for the total cost of the complete treatment.
What is bundled in
A full quotation should show the consultation, the product, ultrasound guidance if used, and the injection procedure. Some clinics bundle all four, some quote only the product and add the rest at the counter.
Working out what it actually costs you
The number that matters is the cost per month of useful relief, including the days you spend getting it.
A corticosteroid at RM 250 giving eight weeks of relief works out near RM 125 a month, and you will be back four times a year until you hit the annual limit. A single cross-linked injection at RM 1,200 giving nine months works out near RM 130 a month with one clinic visit. The two are closer than the headline prices suggest, and the second costs you four fewer trips.
What clinics pay
For context, the trade price of Chondroplus to a clinic in Malaysia is RM 500 per 2 ml prefilled syringe, or RM 450 each for three or more. The difference between that and what a patient is charged covers the consultation, the doctor administering it, ultrasound guidance, consumables and the clinic overheads. A patient price in the RM 900 to RM 1,800 band is consistent with normal practice.
Insurance and claims
Most standard Malaysian medical cards are built around hospital admission and do not pay for an outpatient injection. Cover is more likely if you have an employer group plan with an outpatient specialist benefit, or a takaful rider that names outpatient procedures.
If you intend to claim, ask before the injection for an itemised bill that lists the consultation, the product name, the procedure and any imaging as separate lines. A single lump-sum receipt is the most common reason a claim is rejected.
