Indication. Chondroplus is indicated for the relief of pain and improvement of joint mobility in patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee, ankle and hip. It is administered by a registered medical practitioner as a single intra-articular injection.

Long-acting hyaluronic acid with collagen tripeptide

Chondroplus

One 2 ml prefilled syringe. Forty milligrams of cross-linked, non-animal hyaluronic acid to restore the joint fluid, and twenty milligrams of collagen tripeptide small enough to reach the cartilage itself.

Scope of this claim. The 9 months to 1 year duration is from Reganemed product information and internal data, not from an independent head-to-head trial. The published study that this site summarises followed patients to 6 months. The 2024 study was retrospective, had no control group, and enrolled 29 patients with 6-month data for 24. It is supportive evidence, not proof of superiority over any other product.

One injection, not a course of three to five

Cross-linking ties the hyaluronic acid chains together so the enzymes that normally clear them from the joint work more slowly. A patented microwave stabilisation process extends residence time further. That is what turns a three-month product into a nine-month one.3

In short

What is Chondroplus and how long does it last?

Chondroplus is a sterile 2 ml prefilled syringe containing 40 mg of cross-linked sodium hyaluronate and 20 mg of collagen tripeptide, given by a doctor as a single injection into an osteoarthritic joint. Reganemed reports 9 months to 1 year of effect from one injection, against 3 to 6 months for conventional hyaluronic acid. Both components are non-animal: the hyaluronic acid is made by bacterial fermentation and the collagen tripeptide is synthetic.

Why two ingredients

An osteoarthritic joint has two problems at once. The synovial fluid has lost the viscosity that cushioned it, and the cartilage matrix is being broken down faster than the cells can rebuild it. Conventional viscosupplements address the first and leave the second alone.

Cross-linked hyaluronic acid, 40 mg

High purity, produced by bacterial fermentation rather than from animal tissue, at a molecular weight of 2.8 to 3.6 million daltons. It restores lubrication and shock absorption, and carries an anti-inflammatory effect.2 The cross-linked structure and the patented stabilisation process are what give it the longest half-life among the hyaluronic acid products in this range.

Collagen tripeptide, 20 mg

Synthetic, highly purified, non-immunogenic and non-antigenic, at 16 to 18 kDa. That molecular weight is the point: it is small enough to diffuse into cartilage tissue rather than remaining in the joint cavity, where it stimulates chondrocytes and fibroblasts to increase cartilage matrix synthesis and inhibit degeneration.

Delivering both from one syringe is what separates this product from a conventional viscosupplement. More on what collagen tripeptide does.

The clinical evidence

A 2024 study in Frontiers in Medicine evaluated a single ultrasound-guided injection of this combination in 29 patients, 34 knees.1 Every patient had knee osteoarthritis together with calcium pyrophosphate deposition, a phenotype known for more sustained inflammation and faster cartilage destruction than osteoarthritis alone. Median radiographic grade was 3, mean age 70, and a fifth had already failed hyaluronic acid or PRP.

Pain fell significantly at one, three and six months against baseline, with the largest improvement at six months. Seventy-nine per cent reached a clinically meaningful improvement in pain and 83 per cent on the WOMAC index. No injection-related side effects and no post-injection flares were recorded.

How it is administered

  1. Confirm the indication

Symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee, ankle or hip, assessed clinically and radiographically. Exclude active joint or skin infection.

  2. Aspirate any effusion first

Draining prevents dilution of the injected material and relieves intra-articular pressure.

  3. Inject the full 2 ml intra-articularly

Ultrasound guidance is recommended and was used throughout the published study. Aseptic technique, single use, do not re-sterilise.

  4. Advise the patient

Avoid strenuous loading for 48 hours. Mild local aching or warmth may occur and settles without treatment.

Important safety information

Do not use

  • In a joint with active infection, or through infected skin.
  • If the sterile barrier or packaging is damaged.
  • In a patient with known hypersensitivity to any component.

Use with care

  • In patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication.
  • Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Use clinical judgement.
  • Single use only. Do not re-sterilise or retain unused product.

What patients may experience

Local aching, warmth or mild swelling in the injected joint for one to two days is the common reaction and settles with rest and ice. In the published cohort of 29 patients no injection-related side effects and no post-injection flares were recorded.

Seek medical attention urgently

If the joint becomes hot, markedly swollen and increasingly painful over 24 to 48 hours, particularly with fever or chills. Septic arthritis after any joint injection is rare and is an emergency.

Questions about Chondroplus

What is Chondroplus used for?
Pain relief and improved joint mobility in osteoarthritic joints, most commonly the knee. It is also used in the ankle and hip. It is given by a doctor as a single injection into the joint.
How long does one Chondroplus injection last?
Reganemed reports 9 months to 1 year from a single injection, against 3 to 6 months for conventional hyaluronic acid products. That figure comes from manufacturer product information and internal data rather than an independent head-to-head trial. Individual results vary with the grade of osteoarthritis and the state of the joint.
Is Chondroplus halal, and is it from an animal source?
The hyaluronic acid is produced by bacterial fermentation, not extracted from animal tissue, and the collagen tripeptide is synthetic and highly purified. Neither component is animal-derived. For formal certification status, ask your supplier for the current documentation.
How much does Chondroplus cost in Malaysia?
The trade price to clinics is RM 500 per 2 ml prefilled syringe, or RM 450 each for three or more, excluding tax. What a patient pays depends on the clinic, since it includes consultation, ultrasound guidance if used, and the procedure itself.
Where can I get a Chondroplus injection?
Through a registered medical practitioner. If your clinic does not stock it, they can order it from AA Alive Sdn. Bhd. for delivery across Malaysia, usually the next working day in the Klang Valley.
Can Chondroplus be used in joints other than the knee?
Yes. It is indicated for mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee, ankle and hip. The knee is the most common site because it is the joint most often affected and the easiest to inject accurately.
What makes Chondroplus different from other hyaluronic acid injections?
Two things. The hyaluronic acid is cross-linked at 2.8 to 3.6 million daltons, which slows the enzymes that clear it from the joint. And it carries 20 mg of collagen tripeptide, a peptide small enough to diffuse into cartilage and signal the cells that maintain it. Conventional products lubricate only.
