- Population: 29 patients, 34 knees, all with knee osteoarthritis AND calcium pyrophosphate deposition
- Mean age 70.3 years; median Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3; 20% had already failed hyaluronic acid or PRP
- Intervention: one ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection
- Follow-up: 1, 3 and 6 months
- Result: pain fell significantly at every follow-up point against baseline, largest improvement at 6 months
- 79% of patients reached the minimum clinically important improvement in pain (NRS)
- 83% reached it on the total WOMAC score
- Safety: no injection-related side effects and no post-injection flares recorded
